Hi there! I’m Kali. Welcome to Bird is the Word; a collection of all the things I like best in this world. Home. Family. Life on the Farm. Comfort food. Meaningful words. And beautiful photographs. I live a sweet, simple life with my third-generation berry farmer and our little farmer boy in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. I love beautiful food, slow mornings, getting my hands dirty and being outside with my two favorite fellas.
A few years after college, I decided to throw in the towel on my marketing career and go back to culinary school. I was burnt out and needed a change. Working with food reminded me who I really was, and helped me realize I’d probably never be happy if I wasn’t living creatively. I spent a few years working at a beautiful, prestigious restaurant in the city and baking in the early mornings at quiet cafe in wine country, but soon felt the itch to start my own catering company. After three wonderful seasons and the birth of our son, I decided to put my catering business on hold and enjoy being a stay-at-home mama for a while. I still do a good deal of photography work for families and publication, and just like my idol Laura Ingalls Wilder, write a monthly column in our local small-town newspaper. Thanks for following along on this sweet journey of mine!
