Ever since I’ve known Taylor, we’ve gone to the Oktoberfest. And I say THE, because even though it’s not the one in Germany, as far as we’re concerned, it’s the only Oktoberfest worth going to. Mt. Angel, the small community that hosts this annual event is a mere 15 minutes from our house and though we couldn’t quite put a finger on it, I’d guess this was our 13th time going together.
Last year, Emmett’s first, it was pouring rain so hard that we lasted about 15 minutes and didn’t even get him out of his plastic-enclosed stroller. But this year, oh boy, was this year a different story. We went on opening night, which was warm and clear, and that little boy ate his heart out and stayed up two hours past his bedtime. He put away an entire milkshake by himself and we didn’t hear from him for about 45 minutes while he had his head buried in that thing. We met up with some dear friends and their sweet kiddos and had ourselves a really lovely time.
Here’s a few of our Ofest favorites:
- Stayton Kiwanis Beer-battered Onion Rings
- Mt. Angel Sausage Co. Bratwurst (grilled onions for me + Emmett and kraut for Taylor)
- Oregon Dairy Women Milkshakes
- Keizer Fire Department Corn on the Cob
- Butte Creek Apple Cake and Butter Sauce
We had such a good time, we decided to head back Saturday for lunch. I think I’ve reached my fill of onion rings for the next year, but boy were they tasty! I even managed to avoid my husband wearing his hideous chicken hat for the second year in a row, so a win on all accounts. Ha!
